No network scanner software September 2, 2010 P. Mehrabian (Glendale, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First off set up took too long, and then I called Canon b/c I could not get the scanner to work on the network. What a waste of time, I waited 36 minutes until I could speak to a network rep and then he told me that you could not do scans over the network unless you get other software to do this. What??? I have to buy more software??? He told me that I could scan using USB only and not the network using the software they provided. This was not total true, since it comes with Presto PageManager that did the trick, but too many clicks and scanning was very slow. Waited a week to replace my Dell all in one and got a piece of junk. I had such good experience with Canon before, but this one is really horrible.
Oh Come On!!! August 25, 2010 Hypertec 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Printer works fine, copier works fine, fax works fine. Network scanning stinks though and dont even dream that you will get support from Canon. After all they are known for their lack of follow up. If you call tech support, be sure to verify that they can actually assist you before you give them your contact info. The canon tech support feller wasted a chunk of my time taking my contact info on the unit only to tell me he couldnt help me once he had my contact info. As always, canon has fabricated their "award winning tech support" claims. oh well, at least they print.
Excellent buy August 22, 2010 Moe We have purchased 4 of these machines which for the most part are identical to the Cannon's D480. After having tried Dell 1600 an then 1850 for about 9 years, I must say if I had tried this cannon machine earlier, we would have switch a long time ago. one can print on both sides of the paper which one could not with the Dell's and the speed by which it wakes up from sleep or the standby and print is abolutely great. They are also very quite and energy efficient. We will be purchasing more as our other Dell's die-out (they had been having a three year life expectancy, max.). I would suggest to buy the generic toners as the Cannon's in my opinion is over priced.
Canon MF4370dn August 18, 2010 JustAnotherReview 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I decided to purchase the MF4370dn from Amazon for home office use after being impressed with Canon's D1180's network performance which I and others use at work. I configured the 4370 for PC network operation only and have 5 days of use. The setup was fairly easy with regard to the basics. Should you not be computer friendly (or familiar with the D1180), the manual does a decent job explaining initial setup. I only consulted the manual (you actually get a digital and printed manual) when configuring the scanner. The setup installs a driver which can be used in programs such as Photoshop Elements or Corel Photo Paint which then allow you to acquire an image. Canon assumes this is common knowledge as it's not clearly stated in the manual. HOWEVER, the cd also contained a program called Presto! PageManager. Once installed I could one-touch scan document(s) into single- or multiple-page .pdf files or save into a number of other formats... no other program is needed. While I did not scour the provided documents, there was no mention of this program in the scanner section or included errata. What's up Canon?? Only by reading other reviews here did I have a clue to search deeper within the CD's for a possible program. The printer is fast, even with graphic files and there's virtually no warm up when coming out of energy saver mode. Gray scale printing is very good as well.. using oem toner. Even then, there seems to be plenty of happy people using compatible toner which run less than half the cost of oem version. Fax functions well, though I don't have anything other than basic needs. Receiving is fast and the image quality sure beats ink output. Faxing from my computer is straight forward and quick. I did not have any problems faxing multiple pages through the ADF. The remote UI is a great feature... if using the network connection. Entering all the basic data (phone number, contact data, settings, etc) can be done via your browser. No scrolling through menus is needed in this case. If you have an extensive phone book... happy days. Overall thoughts: I have no issues thus far with the printer. For 170.00 I think it's well worth the price for an all-in-one home-use machine. I would not purchase this for a business; I don't think it would stand up to heavy use (and a small plastic paper tray that holds 200 sheets (maybe) 2nds the motion). I've read a number of reviews and unfortunately the reviewers seem all over the map in terms of satisfaction. In fact, some reviewer's statements are incorrect... or has Canon improved the product over time? Guess you'll never know what you get. Cheers!
POS August 15, 2010 Penny I use this printer with an iMac which is also running XP via Parallels. After a while, the mac isn't able to print wirelessly anymore. In order to print to it again, I have to physically power cycle the printer. This is really annoying since I bought this printer specifically for its wireless capabilities because I work in a room separate from the printer room. Network scanning does not work at all on the mac. I've searched all over the web and I can't find any proof it works. Even USB scanning is tricky. If you press once on the scan button, it sets it to network scan only. You have to know that you're supposed to press the scan button a second time in a row to get it to USB mode. I still haven't been able to get network scanning to work in XP (Parallels). The one time I did get network scanning to work on a friend's Windows laptop, I realized that it won't just scan on its own. You physically have to walk over to the printer and press the scan button before any scanning can be done. Installation help/documentation is just about non-existant. Also, Canon's drivers download website lacks vital descriptions on each install file. Every time I go there, I literally have to guess which file I need.
