Beware - the CLX-3175fw has no wireless compatibility with this year's MacBook Pros! it also does not come with a manual!! - and no instructions- so good luck w/ set up!...... we spent hours on phone w/ their tech people who finally discovered the CLX3175 could not run wireless with Mac... and we had to return a true nightmare !
Would never buy Samsung again at any price August 23, 2010 Ray Cassavaugh (Saranac Lake, NY United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Warranty Hell" is probably the best description I have heard so far for the positively worst warranty service from a name-brand manufcturer I have ever experienced (twice). The first one was on a VCR/DVD recorder that took 2 unsuccessful repairs and a refund check finally after about 3 to 4 months. Right now I am in the midst of the worst debacle yet on a repair or replacement of a new defective product that I have ever experienced in my adult life. A 4-in1 printer burned out a few days after it was installed. They said it would take 10 to 12 days total to repair and get it back to me at their expense. They could not get a prepaid shipping label to me by email to 3 different email accounts in 2 cities due to "technical glitches" on their end. After about 5 days of that runaround I agreed to receive by postal mail a pre-paid label. That was 12 days ago and that has not been sent either, no doubt due to "technical glitches" not the least of which is that they allowed the service order to expire due to its not being processed in a timely fashion. In the meantime I paid $60 for shipping to their only service center 3000 miles away. The box arrived with the then-expired work order number on it on a Friday. Guess what days their warranty center does not work? Friday, Saturday and Sunday. No point in recounting the numerous frustrating phone conversations to their South Carolina Tech Support or the 4 to 5 times I have had this escalated to so-called Executive Customer Service to no avail. Right now they have a box with an expired work order number on it and I cannot get through to anyone who can put their hands on the box and make sure the number is changed and it does not get returned as refused. Before buying Samsung here are some warnings. 1. They will NOT cross-ship a new unit to you even if you offer to pay for it until after the warranty expires or until you have received a defective unit back that has been "repaired" and it still does not work. 2. The Tech Support and the Warranty Service are 2 different companies 3000 miles apart and neither of them appears to be part of Samsung Corporation. 3. No one, including Executive Customer Support, has the authority to actually do anything to overcome technical glitches or delays. All they can do is key-punch information into the "system" and hope it does what they promise it will do over and over again. 4. Do not buy anything from Samsung that is in a mission-critical location if you do not have backup equipment there because you can usually expect any repairs/replacements to take between 5 weeks minimum to 4 months or more --- to say nothing of the several dozen hours you can spend spinning your wheels in online chats that are utterly useless and phone conversations that are so frustratingly illogical that you need medication or alcohol to get through them. In the last 15+ years I have bought several dozen Samsung products including numerous laser printers. Their quality in the past has been super. The current crop of very pricey and extremely shoddy printers alone will make me stop buying them in the future. But the Warranty policies and repair procedures are a nightmare that would stop me from buying even the best equipment on the market just to avoid the potential for dealing with a repair. Beware.
Wireless setup is very poor, buggy August 15, 2010 Scott Herz (Cupertino, CA United States) I picked this printer up, attracted by the footprint and wireless options. Getting this connected to my wifi network was awful. The documentation is very poor and the process is very complicated. I fought this thing for two hours until figuring out (on my own) that it won't work connect to a WiFi base station with a space in its name! It took reconfiguring my whole network (and every device connected to it) with a new name to make this work. The mac software is very poor. It locks up, and installs in a very strange way.
Problems with thicker paper August 3, 2010 Andrew Cusack (Huntsville, AL) This printer works great for limited home use. It's convenient to share among all the computers in the house. My old laser died right before tax season, and I had a wedding on the horizon. The printer worked great for printing out all the tax forms and documents. The scanner application was difficult to find, but was easy and intuitive once located. However, the demands placed on it for the wedding revealed a lot of internal flaws. First, there's no manual feed slot. Forget printing envelopes; they don't fit in the tray. Neither do smaller card stock. Perforated Avery-style sheets jammed and disintegrated inside the printer frequently, though the same heavy paper used for the programs didn't jam hardly at all. The printer feeds each sheet around the drum 4x for a color print, so the paper comes out excessively curled... more noticeable on the heavier paper. Also, under heavy print load (70 color pages, thick paper), the printer starts to misfeed paper until it cools down. Knowing what I know now, I would have opted for something else, particularly for the wedding. Once the wedding is over, though, I'm sure I'll be completely satisfied with the printer once again.
Wireless-Read This First July 24, 2010 C. Szabelski (Colorado) Just received the Samsung's CLX-3175FW printer. I researched many printers after having HP printers for the last 3 years and all of them dying in about one year each. I read the majority of the reviews and it seemed that this was the perfect machine other than the wireless connection problem that everyone seems to have problems with. One review I read talked about connecting the USB wire PRIOR to connecting the wireless. So I connected the USB and followed the rest of the directions and within 10 minutes my computer was hooked up to the wireless. I then disconnected the USB cord. Easy. Now with my other laptops, I did not use the USB as I already had my wireless working on my main computer. I went into the Start-Control panel-Printers area and clicked on "Add a printer". First of all had a slight problem with not finding my printer in the selection. But after clicking on the Windows Update, the list of all printers downloaded. This computer was listed as "Samsung cls 3170 Series". Just clicking on that and following the on screen directions, that laptop was connected within 5 min. One last note, if on your other computers or laptops while trying to connect to the wireless part, one of the on screen questions asks if you have the disk. I did not have to use the disk the way I did it, but that sounds like a easy second choice to setup. Good Luck. :)
